Michalak Fine Art on Madfish Wharf opens the 2023 season with an opening Reception April 8th from 4pm-7pm.
Artwork by three former SMFA graduates celebrate the change of season with “Perpetual Spring.”
The exhibition highlights a variety of different media including collage, acrylic, gouache and oil painting.
Sasha Parfenova, a Boston-based artist’s intricate collages, meld realistic imagery of flowers, birds and other natural phenomena in abstract, contemplative arrangement. Fotini Christophillis, based in Greenville, SC, taps into family history, presenting paintings inspired by her visit to Greece, where her grandparents once lived. And Vanessa Michalak explores imagery around the theme gardens and wildflowers in her dynamic oil paintings.
“Many of my paintings are driven by my love of expressive mark making versus subject matter alone. I have found nature to be a continual source of inspiration while organic shapes have allowed for endless possibilities to manipulate paint in inventive ways. New color palettes have emerged from painting gardens and flowers but the underlying principles remain the same; lively, dynamic and varied marks. Much like Spring, full of determination, exuberance and growth.”
